welcome!
It is finally spring here at the farm, and we are looking forward to a great 2008 season. Although the vegetable stand will not open until early July, we are already busy making preparations for the summer. We are also giving our Christmas trees some special attention right now, pruning and fertilizing them so that they will be at their very best come December.
Upcoming Treats:
Treat Farm is pleased to be sponsoring Bingo at the Orange Senior Center in June. Please join us in senior cafe at the High Plains Community Center on Thursday, June 19th from 1 - 3 pm for what is sure to be a fun afternoon! We will be providing light refreshments, as well as the final prize of the day.
More News:
In May, Heather had the opportunity to visit with several of the second grade classes at Peck Place School and many third graders at Race Brook School to read The Tree Farmer by Chuck Leavell. Through an agricultural literacy event sponsored by the Connecticut Agricultural Education Foundation (CTAEF), Heather was able to present a new copy of the book to each school, and to provide written resources and materials about Connecticut agriculture to the schools' libraries. She enjoyed spending time reading to the children, and answering their many questions about farming, Christmas trees, and Treat Farm! Many thanks to Miss Abbott at Peck Place and Mrs. Johnson at Race Brook for helping to schedule the visits.
The 8th Annual Hopkins Golf Tournament was held on Monday, May 19th at the Orange Hills Country Club. We were happy to be a sponsor again this year, as this tournament raises funds for student scholarships at Hopkins. For more information, visit
the Hopkins school website or contact Shelby, who is a member of the Golf Committee.
